While she was still raising her children, Weiss began working for Milford pharmacist Arnold Bowker. She became a full-time employee and ultimately worked there until she was 87. She and her husband were two of the original shareholders and then members of Holland Township's Oak Hill Golf Club, and they remained active for over 30 years.
Weiss was a great golfer, and one of the best lady bowlers in the area as well. She loved to cook and bake, even into her last few years. She was also a voracious reader and rarely missed her two favorite TV shows, "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." She had been a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church, in Milford, and more recently, of St. Mary Catholic Church, in Rutherford. She and her daughter Judy also regularly attended activities at Rutherford’s Kip Senior Center.
She is survived by her children, Judy Weiss Yozzo of Rutherford, Jack Weiss and his wife Nan of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren Cori Yozzo Verdino and her husband Tom of Rutherford, Scott Yozzo and his wife Anna of Nutley, Carly Elizabeth Weiss of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Mary Katherine Weiss of New York City; four great-grandchildren; special niece Sandy Hager Hamlin; and many other nieces and nephews.
Weiss was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Robert "Bob" Weiss; parents Earl and Kate Pfeiffer Andrews; and siblings John Andrews, Orville Andrews, Evelyn Andrews Hager Gyarmaty and Gertrude Andrews Matviak of Warren Glen, and Donald Andrews of Milford.
A memorial mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 91 Home Ave., in Rutherford. Her ashes will be buried alongside her late husband's, in Union Cemetery, in Riegelsville, Pennsylvania, at a later date. Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, in Rutherford, is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Shawl Ministries of St. Edward Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street, Milford, NJ 08848.
