Move To Make Rutherford Mayor Full Time Controversial

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Rutherford Borough Council voted 5-1 on an ordinance to make Mayor Joseph DeSalvo a full-time mayor, hiking his salary from $4,000 to $74,000, according to The Record.

Many residents were opposed to the measure, however, The Record reported. There will still be a public hearing and council vote, on a second reading of the ordinance, before it's final.

DeSalvo has been performing duties of a borough administrator since early last year, when Richard Sheola resigned, to take another job, The Record reported.
