The May 7 event starts at 6 p.m. at Il Villaggio, 651 Route 17 North in Carlstadt.
McPherson is a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, a member of the Polymathic Club, and an active participant in the Woman's Club of Rutherford. (The Woman's Club founded the library in 1893.)
There will be an extended cocktail hour with hot and cold hors d'oeuvres followed by dinner and dancing in the main dining room.
Proceeds from the event support the Rutherford Public Library.
Tickets are $150 per person. They must be purchased online or in person at the library.
A 60' television will be raffled off along with a silent auction.
Interior renovations to the library began eight months ago to "strengthen the library's role as an access point for technology," according to a statement.
The Rutherford Public Library Foundation, which was established in 2011, helped outfit a new public computer lab and is furnishing the newly expanded Children's Room.
"The efforts of the foundation are making it possible for the Rutherford Public Library to transform into a 21st century facility," according to a statement.
