The Division Of Economic Development, led by Joanne Cimiluca, will work alongside the Economic Development Corporation to attract new businesses and help current ones grow, Tedesco said.
The Workforce Development Board, led by Tammy Molinelli, will work with communities and businesses to determine the skills that employers are seeking in potential employees -- and then provide resources and training to applicants, he said.
"Our ability to retain and attract successful business and talented workers starts with each one of you," Tedesco told the crowd during the gathering at the Commissioner's Club. "The county is here to partner with you in that effort."
The mayors welcomed the news.
"I think [Tedesco] is right on the money," Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet said. "This is a critical time for Bergen County, and we have to take advantage of what the county executive has offered."
"We were cities working for ourselves," said Anthony Furfaro, Garfield's director of parks and recreation, "and now we are a county working together."
"Quality of life is the most important thing we can do for the people of Bergen County," Tedesco said. "The better the quality of life we have, the more people will stay here and the more businesses will want to come here."
A panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer session included representatives from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the NJ Business Action Center, Choose New Jersey, the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, Crestron Electronics, and the Bergen County One-Stop Career Center.
