Rutherford 'Cake Boss' Veteran Crafts Custom Valentine's Day Menu

RUTHERFORD, N.J. — This Valentine's Day, Rutherford bakery owner Renee Faris wants you to think outside the heart-shaped box when buying treats for your significant other.

The owner of Erie Coffee Bakery on Franklin Avenue has designed a custom Valentine's Day menu in hopes of attracting lovers who know that the stomach is the key to the heart.

"I am a perfectionist so everything always looks beautiful and tastes beautiful," said Faris, 30, who makes everything in small batches and enjoys changing her menu regularly. "The way that we designed this menu is so that it is full of different surprises."

The "Cake Boss" Veteran is offering a homemade candy box for two featuring brown butter caramels, salted cashew brittle, chocolate covered strawberry marshmallows, apricot-ginger-hazelnut rochers, shortbread hearts and grapefruit pate de fruit.

Faris is also cooking up boxes of mini shortbread hearts, passion fruit pavlova with raspberry cream, red wine cherry heart hand pies, german chocolate cake squares, and tequila infused lollipops, all of which will be freshly prepared and decoratively packaged for pickup upon request.

The baker said all of her treats are made for sharing, and that the quality is unmatched.

"If you get one of our boxes you will definitely be able to taste the difference in quality," Faris said. "That is why we do small batches, everything tastes so fresh."
