Loretta Italiano, a co-owner of the Park Avenue restaurant, helps bring her namesake country's cuisine to the menu. Open since Valentine's Day of of 1934, the tavern offers a specialty thin-crust pizza and other items.
New Park Tavern was recently selected as a finalist in the Daily Voice's DVlicious Best Pizza in Bergen County competition. Voting continues through Monday, Oct. 26.
The casual setting helps New Park Tavern's appeal, Italiano said. The pizza and Sunday football specials also add to the atmosphere, she said.
Ed Ogle of Lyndhurst said he comes to New Park Tavern in part because of the many TVs set up around the bar that offer options for watching college football.
"And of course I come here for the pizza, anyway, so this is an extra bonus," he said.
John Fitzgibbons said he visits the tavern once a week. The classic pepperoni pizza is his favorite, but he also enjoys the friendly bartenders and clean surroundings, he said.
