The grant was awarded because the borough collected more than 1,100 tons of recyclable waste. In the last four years, Carlstadt received to $338,023 ranking the borough second in Bergen County and fifth in the state of New Jersey.
“A strong and efficiently run program brings solid results as proven by the annual success of the Borough of Carlstadt’s recycling efforts,” Mayor Craig Lahullier said in a statement. “The numbers speak for themselves – Carlstadt is a leader in recycling statewide and our team is extraordinary in their efforts year-after-year.”
The grant funds are used to invest in and offset the costs of the Borough’s recycling program including salaries and maintenance.
“I have come to expect these results because I know the commitment of our workers to not just going through the motions but instead constantly making adjustments to ensure the program remains a leader and role model for other communities throughout New Jersey,” Council President Dave Stoltz, liaison to the recycling program said.
