New Jersey Attorney Gurbir S. Grewal said his office was reviewing the death of a 21-year-old Trenton man in a scooter crash because it somehow involved law enforcement. The man, who wasn't identified, was riding a Yamaha scooter without a helmet near the intersection of Route 33 and Whitehorse-Mercerville Road in Hamilton Township when a township officer in an unmarked car spotted him shortly after 9 p.m. on May 25, Grewal said. Tractor-Trailer Hits Police Car, Injures Officer On Notorious Stretch Of Route 287
UPDATE: An Oakland police officer directing traffic following a tractor-trailer crash on a notorious stretch of Route 287 was injured when another rig struck his cruiser before dawn Thursday, State Police said. The officer was directing traffic after a tractor-trailer had jack-knifed in the northbound lanes near Exit 58 shortly before 12:30 a.m., NJSP Sgt. First Class Lawrence Peele said. As he did, another rig came barreling down the highway and struck his 2018 Ford Explorer, Peele said. A Hillsdale woman lost $9,000 in a “grandparent scam” to a Paterson thief who was identified and arrested by borough detectives, authorities said. Elvis Guzman-Silia, 44, was nailed following a two-month investigation, Police Chief Chief Robert Francaviglia said Tuesday. The victim told police a caller convinced her that her grandnephew had been arrested following a traffic accident and that she had to pony up $9,000 to bail him out, Francaviglia said. Scooter Rider Critically Injured In Passaic Crash
An electric scooter rider was clinging to life Tuesday morning after being struck in Passaic, responders said. Witnesses said the late-30s victim ran a red light and was struck by a minivan at the intersection of President and Parker Streets shortly after 10:30 a.m. He was unconscious when taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, responders said. The driver, meanwhile, remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who notified the Passaic County prosecutor's fatal accident team. City firefighters and EMS also responded.

Morning Crash Topples Ridgewood Traffic Light
A morning crash toppled a traffic light in Ridgewood. Both drivers refused medical attention following the 7:20 a.m. crash Tuesday at Linwood and North Pleasant avenues, responders said. Their vehicles -- an SUV and sedan that both sustained heavy front-end damage, had to be towed. A 61-year-old van driver died and 14 passengers were injured in a crash Wednesday morning on Route 24 in Morris County, authorities confirmed. A 2000 Ford E350 passenger van was heading eastbound when it veered off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned around 10:15 a.m. near milepost 2, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said.
