Cement Truck Rolls On Route 208
A driver escaped serious injury Thursday morning after his cement truck rolled onto a divider at an entrance to Route 208 in Fair Lawn. The truck was fully loaded and tipping the scale at 70,000 pounds -- as in: 35 tons -- when it tipped on the ramp to the southbound highway from eastbound Fair Lawn Avenue around 9:30 a.m. April 4, according to a representative for Tanis Concrete who was at the scene. Water Main Break Opens Gaping Hole Off Route 208
A water main break Friday afternoon closed the entrance and exit ramps at a Route 208 interchange in Fair Lawn. The ramps along northbound Route 208 at Berdan Avenue off Plaza Road were affected after the road buckled under the water pressure, leaving a gaping hole, shortly after lunchtime Sept. 8. No vehicle damage or incidents were reported as a result. However, many residents reported brown water coming out of their taps. A 19-year-old Fair Lawn passenger involved in a crash on Route 208 told Glen Rock police that one passenger in the other vehicle assaulted her and another touched her, authorities said. A late-night pursuit that began in Franklin Lakes ended with a crash in Wyckoff and all four occupants bailing out, authorities said. It was literally a hit-and-run. A driver whose sedan slammed into a garden apartment complex in Fair Lawn late Saturday fled the scene on foot and was later seized in Waldwick, responders said. The Toyota Camry was headed south on Route 208 when the driver apparently tried to avoid another vehicle that had crashed around 11 p.m. Aug. 26, witnesses said. A driver was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after rolling a sedan Wednesday afternoon on Route 208 in Fair Lawn. The northbound highway was jammed after the Subaru Legacy landed on its driver's side under the Fair Lawn Avenue overpass shortly after 3 p.m. July 26. : Irate Resident Tries To Run Down Police: Wyckoff PD
An irate 69-year-old Wyckoff resident tried to run down a trio of police officers after threatening them with a screwdriver, authorities said. It took two days, but borough police tracked down and arrested Vincent Hartung in Paterson, Lt. Joseph Soto said. Officer Joseph Benanti had originally gone to Hartung’s Russell Avenue home this past Monday, May 1, to discuss an earlier incident with him, the lieutenant said. Implosion Of Nabisco Factory Postponed
What's left of the shuttered Nabisco factory on Route 208 will remain standing a little while longer. The borough of Fair Lawn announced the implosion, set for Saturday, April 15, has been postponed. A new date and time has not been announced. The borough did not give a reason for the postponement, though residents had expressed concern, including launching a petition, about the environmental impacts of the implosion. A 28-year-old pregnant driver and an infant in the back seat were involved in a multi-vehicle evening rush-hour crash on Route 208, responders said. Their injuries didn't appear serious, witnesses said. The chain-reaction collision occurred on the southbound highway at Virginia Drive shortly after 5 p.m., with the victims' Honda sedan spinning out and hitting a garage for a local garden apartment complex. Firefighters quickly extinguished a Franklin Lakes house blaze before it could do more damage. Boxes apparently caught fire in the basement of the Summit Avenue home just off Route 208 shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, responders said. Firefighters had the flames knocked down within a half-hour, they said. The fire was declared under control minutes later. A motorist escaped injury when her sedan struck and killed a small black bear on Route 208, authorities said. The 30-year-old Haskell resident was headed north by herself on the highway when her 2016 Subaru WRX hit the bear between Ewing and Summit avenues in Franklin Lakes around 11 p.m. Friday, Capt. A driver more than 90 years old suffering an apparent medical episode sent his vehicle through a fence on Route 208 Thursday, May 12. The vehicle went through a fence on the southbound side of the highway, and came to rest in the backyard of a home on William Way around 2 p.m. The driver was hospitalized for evaluation and his passenger was unharmed.
