Loose Snake Seized After Scare In Jersey City High-Rise
A loose snake gave building officials a scare in a Jersey City high-rise, officials said. The building manager at 20 River Ct. contacted police on March 4 on reports of a snake entering a unit, according to Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione. Police found the 3-foot albino corn snake behind the fridge on Monday, March 6, she said. The snake was extracted by animal control from the Liberty Humane Society, and confirmed a domestic pet. A Jersey City landlord says the COVID-19 moratorium on evictions has kept her from booting a renter claiming to be a Santeria doctor who was found with nearly two dozen farm animals -- dead and alive -- in the house, according to a new report by the Daily Beast. Goats, Birds Seized In Jersey City Cruelty Incident Possibly Involving Witchcraft
Goats and birds were surrendered in an animal cruelty incident Thursday in Jersey City, officials said. Officers saw the animals in the home at 141 Van Horne St., in the afternoon hours. Unconfirmed and initial police reports cited possible witchcraft, along with dead and alive animals on the property "The City is working with the Liberty Humane Society on the safe surrender of the animals," Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. A Jersey City woman whose two sons and mother were found last year in a feces- and flea-infested home deliberately sneezed on another customer during an argument at the local Target, authorities said Wednesday. Detectives who investigated the COVID-related incident at the 14th Street store last week signed complaints against Bernadette Bisogno, 49, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said. Dolphin Stranded In Jersey City Waterway Rescued, But Later Dies
A dolphin that was in distress as it struggled in the Morris Canal in Jersey City was saved Monday thanks to a group effort by police, wildlife officers and other responders, the city said in a statement. The city's Emergency Services Unit was called to Essex and Hudson streets, within sight of the iconic Colgate Clock, shortly before 5 p.m. There they found the mammal floundering in the shallows near the rocky shoreline. Bayonne Man Punched Dog In The Face, Police Say
A Bayonne man was arrested Wednesday after police saw video of him beating his pet Husky with his fists, police said. On Tuesday, witnesses saw Jose Ortiz, 23, pinning "Brinks" to the ground and punching him in the head and dragging the dog off with the dog's legs off the ground, police said.
