Feds Bust South Jersey Man With Homemade Explosives
Federal agents busted a South Jersey man with do-it-yourself explosive devices and the materials used to make them, authorities said. Among various other items, Thomas Petronglo, 63, of Vineland had a 5¾-inch diameter metal can filled with potassium perchlorate and aluminum with a fuse sticking out, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Jersey Shore Pawn Shop Owner Tied To Shooting Deaths Of JC Officer, 3 Others Gets Fed Pen Time
A Jersey Shore pawn shop owner who was arrested in connection with the December 2019 shooting deaths of a Jersey City police detective and three civilians was sent to federal prison Tuesday for 18 months. A handwritten note found in the pocket of one of the two assailants who were shot dead by police led investigators to Ahmed A-Hady, a 36-year-old ex-con. It contained a telephone number ending in 4115 and the address of the pawn shop, they said. A-Hady had been convicted in 2012 of trying to obtain prescription drugs by fraud, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm, records show. …

FBI Nabs Ex-Soldier From Sussex County Charged With Supporting Syrian Terrorists
FBI agents arrested a Sussex County woman Wednesday and charged her with supporting a Syrian terrorist group. Maria Bell, a 53-year-old former U.S. Army solider and member of the National Guard, provided money and advice to “fighters based in Syria who were members of various factions fighting the Assad regime,” U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. Bell cited her professional experience in specialized weapons training, offering to provide guidance on operational security issues, weapons purchases and military intelligence, a complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Newark charges. Federal Judge Orders Pawn Shop Owner Tied To Jersey City Shooters Held 'Till Bail Hearing
UPDATE: A pawn shop owner arrested in connection with last week's shootout in Jersey City remained in federal custody following a brief appearance Monday in Newark. A U.S. District Court judge scheduled a bail hearing at 11 a.m. Wednesday for Ahmed A-Hady, 35, of Keyport, who's charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Feds Charge Morris County Ex-Con With Building, Exploding Bomb
Federal agents arrested a Morris County man who they said built and exploded a bomb. Christopher Faschan, a 31-year-old ex-con from Landing, remained in custody Thursday pending an appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Newark. He is charged with possessing several “explosive/destructive devices,” as well as precursor materials, and with being a felon in possession of explosive materials, firearms and ammunition, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
