A consortium of mayors throughout North Jersey are demanding an apology from the White House to Prospect Park Mayor Mohamed Khairullah after he was denied entry for a celebration marking the end of Ramadan. Khairullah, who was recently sworn in for his fifth term as mayor, was told by Secret Service Monday, May 1 that he had not been cleared for entry. A local Board of Education trustee got more than she bargained for when she blasted her township police department's response to the coronavirus pandemic. Dawn Kumar, saying that she was speaking as a private citizen, said during an online Wayne Township Council meeting earlier this month that she’d seen a police officer not wearing a face mask in Costco, as well as high school students ignoring social distancing by gathering on a local field. NJ Mayors Want Murphy To Reopen Indoor Malls, Shopping Centers
A group of New Jersey mayors have formed a coalition in hopes of persuading Gov. Phil Murphy to reopen indoor malls. Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormac is helming the coalition of mayors, all of whom have large indoor mall and shopping centers in their municipalities. All New Jersey malls and shopping centers closed on March 17 due to the coronavirus outbreak. On May 18, the state allowed non-essential retail stores to offer curbside pickup.
