Ridgewood Sophomore Revamps Local Bandshell

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — A Ridgewood High School sophomore is bringing new life to the Kasschau Memorial Bandshell on N. Maple Avenue.

For her Girl Scout Gold Award, Sophia Swanson has been working extensively with the Kasschau Memorial Bandshell Committee to form the student-run RHS ARTBeat Committee.

Together, Swanson and the committee have launched Ridgewood ARTBeat 2017, an event coming to the bandshell on June 6 to foster collaboration amongst the many artistic talents of the community.

"In attending several performances this past summer, I noticed an absence of viewers my age, a shame considering the beautiful location and venue," the Girl Scout Senior and varsity tennis player said.

She is hoping to bring a "new, energetic vibe" to the bandshell.

Performers so far include the RHS Maroon Men, RHS Acabellas, Common Ground, Habana Affair and Take 4.
