The event is gathering a variety of items that will be sent to support people in need of them across the globe, through Clothing Drive Fundraiser.
It's an interesting way for items to get a second life. The organization says about 45 percent of collected textiles are reused as apparel, 30 percent are cut into rags and 20 percent is reprocessed into insulation.
Clothing Drive Fundraiser says it's collected 6.5 million pounds of clothing to date, raising $1.3 million for participating groups.
Here's what the drive is collecting:
- clothing
- sneaker and shoes
- household items -- blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, tablecloths, curtains, etc.
- accessories -- purses, backpacks, hats, gloves, socks, scarves, ties, etc.
- toys and stuffed animals
Put all items in well-tied trash bags. Optimally, bag clothing, footwear and accessories, and toys into three separate bags.
Here's what the drive is not collecting: books, CDs and VHS tapes, kitchen appliances, outdoor toys and furniture.
After unloading your trunk, pull around for a car wash. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the RHS parking lot.
