“There’s minimal damage inside the church but there are holes in the stained-glass window,” village Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon. “It happened when no one was inside.”
There are no known motives or threats received by the Glen Avenue church or the pastor, he said.
The shots apparently were fired overnight Christmas evening into the morning of Dec. 26 into the more than 200-year-old building, the chief said. They were discovered this morning, he said.
Village police received a call of possible shots fired around 1:30 a.m. Friday from a block or so away, Ward said. Responding officers found nothing in the immediate vicinity of the call, he said.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence, joining village detectives at the scene.
“We are examining all avenues,” Ward said.
