Fox said 21-year-old Daniel Chaupiz of Wyckoff sped off after Patrolman Kyle Ferreira tried to stop him for driving erratically on Wyckoff Avenue in the early morning hours of Jan. 3.
Ferreira eventually broke off the brief pursuit because of the weather and road conditions, and police subsequently tracked Chaupiz to the Walthery Avenue home of 53-year-old Kimberly Alvano, Fox said.
“[D]espite being advised that Chaupiz was wanted for criminal and traffic offenses, she refused entry to the officers and would not assist in getting Chaupiz to speak with the officers,” he said.
Fox said his officers obtained an arrest warrant charging Chaupiz with several motor-vehicle offenses, eluding a police officer and contempt of court for failing to install a court-ordered interlock device in his vehicle following a DWI conviction.
Chaupiz turned himself in at police headquarters and was released after $25,000 bail, Fox said. Albano was issued a complaint that she must answer in Municipal Court, he said.
