Gary Durocher was drunk and driving on a suspended license when he was arrested, Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Kids were headed to school a block away and adults to work when police went to the Bogert Avenue home on a call that Durocher of Wyckoff had violated a restraining order, the chief said.
While they were there, Durocher came driving by — a second violation — he said.
“They trired to stop him, but he took off,” Ward said.
A brief pursuit followed.
After a couple of turns and ignored red lights, Durocher got caught in traffic — but not before he aimed his vehicle toward a police car and gunned it, said Ward, who was one of the responding officers.
The officer behind the wheel steered out of the way, and police were about to break off the chase because of the circumstances, the chief told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. That’s when they caught up to Durocher on Northern Parkway and Linwood Avenue.
The muscular Durocher, who owns a lighting business in Paramus, posted $100,000 bail and was released a short time later, Ward said.
Charges against him include aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding, burglary, harassment and violating a court order.
Summonses include DWI, DWI in a school zone, driving with a suspended license, three counts of failing to observe a traffic signal, failing to yield to an emergeny vehicle — and not wearing a seat belt.
