Officers Patrick Elmwood and Douglas Christopher arrived at the William Street house about 11:30 a.m. Saturday to find that the little girl had just made her entrance, Police Chief Jacqueline Lutchke told Daily Voice.

"They assisted in making the mother comfortable and supporting the newborn when the EMTs and doctor arrived," the chief said. "They cleared the airway of the newborn, who was properly crying when loaded into the ambulance with her mother."

Lutchke praised her officers while also crediting the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, EMT Ace Antonio and Dr. Robert Lahita.
