John Shelko was riding his home from Ridgewood Cycle around 3:30 p.m. Friday when the SUV struck him at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Oak Street -- between Ben & Jerry's on one corner and East Coast Burger on another.

"It happened quickly and he was pretty shaken up," Andrea Guscott Shelko said. "The car threw him from the bike and ran over the bike but was able to stop before hitting him again while he was on the ground.

"The driver asked if he was OK and then left," the angry mother said. "She didn't get out to wait with him for help, offer to call mom or ask how he was getting home on a broken bike.

"Other drivers stopped to ask if he was OK but no one contacted the police."

The youngster had a sprained shoulder -- although his mom said it could've been worse.

She's hoping one of the motorists who stopped -- or someone at one of the eateries or passing or driving by -- saw or heard something.

Anyone who did, or has information that could help the investigation, is asked to call Ridgewood police: (201) 652-3900.
