“There were no signs of foul play,” Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” said Ward, who dropped returned personal belongings found in the car to his wife and children this afternoon.
The woman first called the security office of her husband’s Mahwah-based employer when her husband didn’t come home from work on time.
When no trace of him was found at his office or the company parking lot, she contacted Ridgewood police.
They pinged the man’s cellphone, pegged it to an area of several square blocks and found his 2002 Nissan Sentra parked in front of the Kings Supermarket on North Maple Avenue.
He was inside, unresponsive.
Robert Lahita, the medical director of Ridgewood Emergency Services, pronounced him dead shortly after 10 p.m.
The vehicle, meanwhile, was impounded for further examination.
The man’s only known health issue was high blood pressure, a source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
