The good Samaritans told police they saw the woman “discarding a bottle of alcohol into a trash can while she was parked at Exxon on the Run” on Route 17 south just after 5:30 last night, Ridgewood Detective Chris McDowell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Two of them “believed she was intoxicated and attempted to stop her,” he said.

“She backed out and struck one of the people attempting to stop her,” then kept going, the detective said.

The 53-year-old man she struck with her car sustained a minor injury to his hip but refused medical treatment, McDowell said.

He and the others supplied valuable information to police, who were preparing charges, the detective said.
