EXCLUSIVE: Two boys passing a Ridgewood bank today were surprised to find some crisp hundred-dollar bills sticking out of a sewer grate.

Their grandmother, who was walking with them on Chestnut Street outside the Boiling Springs Bank around 2 p.m., immediately summoned Ridgewood police.

Sgt. Peter Bolten (left, above) and Shayne James (right) used a pry bar to remove the grate and recover some other bills that had fallen through.

The cash — which appears legit — was being held on police headquarters while detectives try to determine where it came from. For that reason, they’d just as soon not say how much there is.

The rightful owner would know that.
