Ayomide Akinboye, 19, of Carteret was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue east in the westbound lanes of Marin Boulevard in Jersey City toward exiting tunnel traffic when officers got him to roll down his window at 5 a.m. and smelled alcohol on his breath, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

He “appeared disoriented and confused” and had bloodshot eyes, Pentangelo said.

Once Akinboye got out, he “was unsteady on his feet and steadied himself on the door frame of his car” and also “made rambling statements” while failing a field sobriety test, he said.

Akinboye was charged with DWI under 21 years old, reckless driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
