Officers on patrol on Saturday spotted 22-year-old Jose Torres of Jersey City trying to cut a lock securing a red Schwinn Ranger Mountain bike to the north rack, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said this morning.
He “threw down a pair of cutting plyers and quickly walked away” as the officers approached, Pentangelo said.
Torres was charged with possession of burglar tools (two pair of pliers) and drug paraphernalia (a syringe), along with resisting arrest.
Police also charged him with stealing another bicycle on Friday at the Journal Square PATH station in Jersey City.
“During questioning, the suspect freely admitted that he had stolen the bicycle from the Journal Square station,” Pentangelo said.
