PBA urges members to remove visible shields from cars

PUBLIC SAFETY: The Essex County Sheriff’s Office PBA Local is urging its members to remove police shields from their vehicle windshields and windows after shots reportedly were fired at an off-duty officer’s car.

This comes after the New Jersey State PBA instituted a shield blackout yesterday.

“The possibility exits that off-duty officers and their families may become a target,” PBA Local 183 says in a notice. “All members should remove all shields from your windows.

“Be safe…be smart and aware of your surroundings at all times.”
