Overnight storm topples tree branch, smashes windshield, yanks wires in Ridgewood

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Cleanup from an overnight storm continued into this afternoon in Ridgewood, where a large tree branch took down cable TV and telephone lines and smashed the front windshield of a parked car.

No one was hurt when the branch fell outside a home in the 600 block of Whithill Road.

Crews from the village Parks & Recreation Department-Shade Tree Division used chain saws, backpack leaf blowers and a giant chipper/shredder to clear debris from two homes on the block.

Damage appeared to have been limited to the car windshield, some shrubs, and a wooden fence. No power outages were reported.
