Uniformed and plain-clothed village police officers were joined by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
They entered the East Ridgewood Avenue side of the school around 9 a.m. and were gone in a little over a half-hour. Nothing was found, authorities said.
Ridgewood High School Principal Thomas Gorman addressed the following to parents, guardians and students:

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
With the safety and well-being of all students and staff as a paramount concern, the Bergen County Canine Unit and Ridgewood Police Department came to Ridgewood High School this morning as part of our required lock down drill scenarios that take place on a monthly basis.
The students were secured in their classrooms and did not come in contact with the canines or police. The police were here for thirty minutes and the delivery of instruction was not impacted.
The intent of the scent dogs was to ensure the safety and security of all members of our school community. This measure not only helped enhance security, but also addressed concerns regarding possible disruptions to the educational process that may have been occurring clandestinely. This proactive and preventative measure was implemented to ensure the safety of all Ridgewood High School students.
