A Denver-based company that specializes in accident reconstruction produced a series of 3D animations, including a realistic video of the crippled plane in flight and the view from inside the cockpit as US Airways Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger brings the plane down mid-river between the Riverbend apartments and the U.S.S. Intrepid.
Exosphere3D processed audio files and transcripts from the FAA and aligned it with the individual files to create what feels like the real-life adventure, as Sully and controllers on both sides of the Hudson communicate with one another.
Some of those transcripts included later testimony from Sullenberger and some of the other 155 people on board — enabling the artists, for instance, to show that flames and smoke shot from the engines.
