“For now, this program has had an educational focus,” Stalter said this morning. “However, within the near future we will shift the focus of the program and begin to issue summonses to drivers who do not comply with the law.”
The warning comes after the fifth detail over the past year in which borough officers went undercover on Hillsdale streets, using a pedestrian decoy to snag motorists.
Last week’s detail lasted barely an hour — but snagged 29 motorists, the chief said.
Hillsdale joins several other area towns that have conducted the undercover details.
They include Fort Lee, which has one of the area’s highest rates of pedestrian strikes and Ridgewood, where Police Chief John Ward himself has posed as a pedestrian decoy.
