Dump Truck Downs Utility Lines In Ridgewood Neighborhood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A dump truck snagged and downed utility lines in Ridgewood, knocking out service to several area homes early Thursday evening.

The driver told Daily Voice he was handling a paving job a few blocks away when someone inadvertently sat on the lever that lifted the truck's open bed, downing the lines on Grove Street between South Pleasant and South Van Dien avenues.

"I didn't even know what happened," the driver said after the 5:30 p.m. mishap. "Then I got out of the truck and I saw."

PSE&G had to repair a damaged transformer that feeds seven area houses.

The utility company and Verizon were making repairs that they said should restore service by 9 p.m.
