Driver, 22, fails sobriety test after Ridgewood crash

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: A 22-year-old Fair Lawn driver whose car careened from one side of the street to the other, mounted a curb and nearly struck an office sign in Ridgewood was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test.

The incident occurred as the vehicle was headed west on Godwin Avenue at the corner of West End Avenue around 2:25 p.m.

Police said the Toyota Celica GT hit the curb on the north side of the street, then crossed the center dividing line and mounted the curb and sidewalk on the south side of Godwin Avenue before crushing a shrub and coming to a stop.

Ridgewood Lt. Forest Lyons and Officers Rosairo Vaccarella and Raymond Tarino responded and took the driver into custody.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.
