Car barrels into steps after taxi crash in Ridgewood

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: A compact car was sent across the front lawn and into the front steps of a Ridgewood home after it collided with an SUV taxicab this afternoon.

The elderly male driver of the Chevrolet Aveo was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, following the collision at the intersection of North Walnut Street and Robinson Lane shortly before 2 o’clock.

The wooden staircase sustained minor damage, but there was substantial front-end damage to both the Chevy and the taxi.

Ridgewood FD personnel provided EMS support and attended to a minor fluid spill.

Both vehicles were later towed.

No summonses were immediately issued in the crash, which was being investigated, said village Police Capt. Jacqueline Luthke, who was at the scene.
