The patrols are paid for through a Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund fed by a surcharge on those arrested by county police who are convicted of DWI.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 416 motorist killed over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend nationwide last year.

Of those deaths, 42% involved a driver who had a blood-alcohol content of .08% or higher.
