Ridgewood Police Department Patrol Officer Kevin McKeon was dispatched to Sara’s Pre-School, at 303 Prospect Street, just after 8 a.m. after someone from the school called 911.
The male employee of the school found the weapon — originally described here this morning as a rifle — in a wooded area adjacent to the school earlier in the morning, took it inside for safe keeping, and then called police.
McKeon (above) checked the area for any other weapons or ammunition before putting the gun in the trunk of his patrol car.
It was taken to Ridgewood Police headquarters for further analysis and investigation.
