William Richard Zimmerle, 80, Ringwood Resident

RINGWOOD, N.J. – William Richard Zimmerle, of Ringwood, died Tuesday, March 22 at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. He was 80.

Born Aug. 25, 1935, in Passaic, he was the eldest son of William Rudolph and Lenora Zimmerle. 

An avid photographer and technology enthusiast, he also loved to vacation in the mountains and lakes of Maine with his wife and children. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was educated at William Paterson University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Social Studies and English, and at Montclair State University, where he received a master’s degree in special education. He was an educational administrator and a teacher who served the Bergen County Technical Schools in Hackensack for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, of Ringwood; two children, Jennifer M. Zimmerle and Dr. William Gerard Zimmerle, both of Wanaque; and brothers, John Zimmerle and his wife, Ladi, of Statesville, N.C. and Alan Zimmerle and his wife, Joanne, of Manchester, N.H.

Friends and family may visit from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hawthorne Gospel Church, Route 208, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at the Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah.
