RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Roberta Smith Grieder, 94, of Ridgewood, died Sept. 6. She was 94.
She was born in Harrisburg, Pa. in 1922.
She graduated from Lemoyne High School, and received her nursing degree from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1943. Among other duties as a registered nurse, she practiced industrial nursing during World War II at a Westinghouse plant in south Philadelphia.
After marrying and moving to New Jersey, she dedicated her life to charitable and volunteer work, serving in leadership positions with organizations such as The Women’s Club of Ridgewood, the Women’s Guild of the West Side Presbyterian Church, the Nurses’ Guild and P.E.O. International.
She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Arthur Grieder.
She is survived by her son John; daughter Judy; son Thomas; grandson Daniel; granddaughter Zoe Grieder; and sister Carol.
A visitation will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
