Suicide prevention walk: When Ashley Morolla of Maywood was planning a suicide awareness walk last July , she could hardly have anticipated the turnout. The October event, called Out of the Darkness, drew 500 people to Saddle River County Park in Saddle Brook.

Condo fire: Sofya Dorshenko might not be here today if it wasn't for three Mahwah police officers. Officers spotted the youngster, then 9, standing on her third-floor balcony as a fire raged through her condominium complex.

Just Pups: All but one of Vincent LoSacco's pet shops have been shut down since April, when Paramus police discovered 67 dogs being crated overnight in a van behind the Just Pups Route 17 store.
