Ridgewood Readies For Vote On First Village Parking Garage

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Ridgewood taxpayers today will vote on a proposed multi-level parking structure that some residents, commuters and business owners have long been fighting for.

Some experts and village officials say the proposed Hudson Street facility makes sense logistically and financially while others aren't keen on the $15 million taxpayer bond.

An anonymous mailer urging taxpayers to 'Vote No For Parking' was sent to this weekend to Ridgewood residents (SEE: Halloween Mystery Emerges In Ridgewood: Vote No To Parking Garage Fliers).

The Hudson Street garage will provide more than 300 spaces on five levels and will occupy a 100 by 300-foot lot. A final rendering has not been decided on, though one suggests the garage will be 46-feet at the highest horizontal edge and the highest piece — the tower — will be 60-feet.

Meter rates will increase incrementally as well, though the amount has not been confirmed.

Village Council will hear public testimony about the size should the majority of taxpayers vote in favor of the proposed garage today.
