Sonenfeld, who held the position since March 2014, was willing and able to work through the end of the year to assure a smooth transition, she told Daily Voice.

Village officials accepted her resignation immediately, Mayor Susan Knudsen told Daily Voice.

In an email to village staff, Sonenfeld cited an "increasingly contentious" work environment as her main reason for leaving.

The village council, however, contend that "differences of opinions and ideas do not constitute a contentious environment," officials said in a statement emailed to Daily Voice.

"In recognition of the heavy workload and our shared desire for a smooth transition, I would like to work together with you to determine a mutually acceptable transition time frame," Sonenfeld told village officials in her letter.

"In her resignation, Ms. Sonenfeld indicated she did not share the vision of this Village Council," officials said in the statement.

"To be clear, this council intends to work in the best interest of the Village of Ridgewood, our residents and taxpayers. It’s unfortunate Ms. Sonenfeld does not support this endeavor."
