On Saturday, Nov. 14, a 3 on 3 Charity Basketball Tournament to benefit her and her family will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School Gym in Ridgewood.

She was diagnosed with colon cancer in February 2014 and subsequently had successful surgery to remove the tumor.

However, a rare genetic disorder, DPD Deficiency, put her into a coma.Besides financial support, it's hoped that the basketball tourney will raise awareness of DPD deficiency while striving to make patient testing for the deficiency a requirement prior to 5-FU based chemotherapy.

The event is sponsored by Goatgear Basketball Camps, Clinics and Leagues. MORE INFO: Goatgear WEBSITE

People can also get more information about her story and the disorder at the STRONG MOM site, where apparel is also for sale.

All proceeds raised from the site are considered donations and go directly to the family.

Funds will be used to help with medical and legal expenses, much needed medical equipment, childcare and other necessities.
