Pain Cave Cycling uses smart trainer technology and connected fitness devices to "transform the way triathletes and cyclists ride and reach their training and fitness goals," according to owners Andrew Jessup and Paul Hackett.

By offering these services, the duo believes the Pain Cave studio is "one of the most technologically advanced centers for personalized power training" and "the safest, most efficient way for athletes to train indoors."

Ironman athletes Jessup of Wyckoff and Hackett of Franklin Lakes developed the idea as a way to "optimize training in a safe environment on [riders'] own bicycles."

Each session is based on individual capability and power input, according to the duo, who employ Wahoo Fitness Kickr Power Trainers.

These trainers connect wirelessly with the software and "provide the most realistic, power-accurate, virtual training experience available," the owners said.

“As the laws around cycling continue to evolve, we talked with many athletes who were uncomfortable training outdoors because of safety reasons”, said Hackett. “We realized there were a number of athletes in Bergen County who were training to get stronger but didn’t have access to smart technology in their training regimen."

Pain Cave Cycling "helps cyclists attain their endurance goals in a safe and controlled environment,” added Jessup.

Pain Cave says its found the most effective way for athletes to work out: through personalized power-based training, using a Functional Threshold Power (FTP) "to determine the maximum power they can sustain over a 60-minute period of time."

The studio, located at 80 Chestnut Street, is open Monday–Saturday by appointment only.

Group classes at varying levels are offered through the Mind Body App, as well, the owners said
