Bright Future Ahead For Ridgewood Jeweler

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Pangea Coins and Jewelry on East Ridgewood Avenue is about to get a whole lot sparklier — and we don't mean the stones.

Shop owner David Rach (pronounced "rock") is awaiting approval from the building department for the go-ahead on a complete renovation.

He hopes to start work in less than six months.

"It's going to be Madison Avenue on East Ridgewood Avenue," said Rach of New York.

Rach took over Pangea for his uncle, former owner Paul Eisler, in 2012.

Prior to working in Ridgewood, he and his cousin bought out a jewelry store in New York.

These days, Rach has partnerships in more than 20 stores, and being in the jewelry business is pretty much his dream job.

"I'm very lucky," said Rach, who specializes in large stones, "because I never feel like I'm tired."

The GIA graduate says he's long had an old soul, and fell in love with the industry as a kid. He was introduced through his grandfather, a watchman, and later got into gemology.

Business in Ridgewood has mostly been through referrals, the jewelry buyer said. The quality at Pangea, which specializes in restored antiques, is just as good as high-end jewelry stores.

Why? Well, the answer is simple, Rach said: "I've got good taste."
