Twice Rescued Whale Turns Up Dead Near Island Beach State Park A minke whale that was stranded twice in two days in Barnegat Bay has died, authorities said. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said in a Facebook post that the whale had died late Thursday, Oct. 5 and was towed to Island Beach State Park. On Friday morning, Oct. 6, the whale was transported from Island Beach State Park to a different location on the mainland so a necropsy could be conducted, the MMSC said. State Park Drowning Victim ID'd As Toms River Woman Authorities have identified the 59-year-old woman who drowned Monday, June 13 at Island Beach State Park as Toms River woman, NJ Advance Media reported. Elizabeth Treharne was swimming alone near Area 22 around 8:20 p.m. when she was swept away by a rip current, the outlet said.  Her body was recovered at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday. Update: Firefighters Recover Body In Seaside Park Seaside Park and Ocean Beach firefighters and EMS crews were called to Island Beach State Park on Thursday on a report of a body found in the water, authorities said. They could not immediately confirm whether it was the row-boater who went missing on the Toms River before Tuesday's thunderstorms.
