Woman says purse was snatched after she stopped to ask directions in Lodi

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Turkish immigrant told Lodi police that a strong-armed robber ran up and snatched her purse after she pulled over to ask directions.

The woman said she stopped on Union Street near Pine Street around 3 p.m. Friday when the bandit ran up from behind and grabbed the purse and bolted toward Williams Street in Hasbrouck Heights, Police Chief Vincent Quatrone said this morning.

It contained a Turkish passport and green card, a Social Security card, a Massachusetts driver’s license and a TD Bank card, he said.

She described him as white, bearded, about 5-foot-10 and thinly built, and wearing a blue, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.
