The first vehicle was traveling east when it crossed the highway across from Teterboro Airport at Huyler Street and Hollister Road just around 3:30 this afternoon, Moonachie police said.

The driver of the vehicle that veered into oncoming traffic sustained serious injuries.

Minor injuries were reported to occupants of the other vehicles, including one of more than two dozen people on the 161 bus.

As traffic suddenly stopped, another crash occurred when a motorcycle rear-ended another vehicle on the other side of the highway.

Moonachie police are investigating both incidents with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit, which is called out in serious crashes.

Everyone apparently is expected to survive, however.

Police have been diverting Route 46 traffic to Route 17 and other roadways. Jams continue in both directions past 6:30 p.m.

“The timing of the accident is poor for traffic, because it’s a Friday,” Moonachie Police Sgt. Thomas Schmidt told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “A lot of people leave work earlier than usual.”
