"Detectives are treating this incident as a bias offense due to comments made during the assault," Capt. Daniel Hippe said this morning.
The gang of four boys struck between 3-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, said the youth, who sustained minor injuries and said that no weapons were used or threatened.
The assailants' ages were put at 14 or 15.
Two were believed to be Hispanic, one with a medium complexion and the other darker, according to the youth.
One of them also was wearing a red t-shirt with white, medium-sized polka dots, while the other had on a blue polo shirt with a white design on the front, the teen said.
The other two had darker complexions, but the youth was unable to determine their race or ethnicity.
