The Diamond Way homeowner told responding officers Wednesday that he returned after being away for two hours to find the house burglarized, said Sgt. Richard Behrens, the department's officer in charge.
"Some jewelry and home electronics were taken from the home and that several bedrooms had been ransacked," Behrens said.
"There was also graffiti written on the walls...that was racist in nature," he said.
The Record identified the victim as New York Giants reserve fullback Nikita Whitlock and said he told the newspaper that he and his family found graffiti that said "KKK," "Trump" and racist language, along with three swastikas.
"This appears to be an isolated incident," said Behrens, adding that authorities were treating it as a hate crime.

Police also asked that people in the area check their surveillance systems in case whoever was responsible might have been caught on video.
