The mother’s Colombian boyfriend is now being held on $750,000 cash bail, charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and child endangerment.

And thanks to Fairview police, the child may live.

Originally from South Florida, the mother and 23-year-old Yoher Andres Jimenez had just moved to Harding Place in Fairview on Saturday after spending a month in Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

The couple began dating soon after the child was born of a different father, he said.

Police were called to the home Sunday night and found the child unresponsive. The infant, who apparently was left alone with Jimenez while the mother went shopping was quickly rushed to Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen and placed on a ventilator.

Later, at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, physicians found “several fractures of the ribs at various stages of healing and a skull fracture that appeared to be consistent with child abuse,” the prosecutor said. “The skull fracture appeared to be a recent injury.”

Detectives found that Jimenez  “was responsible for causing the injuries to the infant by striking the infant with his hand and holding the infant’s head under water in a bath tub in an attempt to drown the infant,” Molinelli said.

The baby most recently was listed in serious condition, he said.
