Ramanathan "Ram" Iyer -- a retired controller of a Teaneck leather goods company -- was alone when the fire broke out on Pickens Street around 8 a.m. Wednesday, responders said, adding that his family had been on vacation.
An "extensive investigation" by borough police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Arson Squad, as well as an autopsy by the county Medical Examiner found "no foul play or anything suspicious," Chief Ralph C. Verdi said.
The second floor was fully engulfed as emergency workers arrived.
