Deyvi R. Leiva, 25, was charged with assault by auto in Tuesday's fiery crash, which sent a 94-year-old resident to the hospital with a leg injury, Lt. Joseph Rella said.
Leiva's truck hit the Mercedes SUV from behind on Ridgefield Avenue, propelling it across Brewster Avenue into the house, during a chase that began with a fender-bender on nearby Route 46, Rella said.
Leiva remained at the scene and was treated for a hand injury while the other driver, 19-year-old Angel Feliz of Guttenberg, fled in a car driven by a friend, the lieutenant said.
The friend, Michael S. Vivar, also 19, of North Bergen, had taken Feliz to a nearby dealership to buy the SUV moments earlier, he said.
An elderly woman who'd been sitting just inside the porch was treated at Holy Name Medical Center for a minor leg injury, the lieutenant said.
Ridgefield Park police tracked down Feliz, whom they charged with assault by auto, and Vivar, whom they charged with hindering apprehension, later that night.
They continued investigating and secured charges against Leiva, Rella said Friday.
It all began with Vivar driving Feliz to the dealership.
Soon after, the SUV and pickup truck got involved in a minor crash on Route 46, Rella said.
